Development of the T\u00fcrkiye-Russia-China-Europe Transport Corridors<\/h2>

1) The Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian \/ Middle Corridor) continues to strengthen<\/strong><\/h5>

T\u00fcrkiye is increasingly positioning itself as a key transit hub between Asia and Europe and is publicly emphasizing the importance of further infrastructure investment and deeper integration between ports and railways. This direction is consistent with T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s long-term transport planning and current rail corridor policy.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>

2) BTK (Baku-Tbilisi-Kars): expectation of modernization in 2026<\/strong><\/h5>

A number of industry materials indicate that modernization works on the Georgian section and further development of terminal infrastructure, including in the Akhalkalaki area, are expected from 2026 onward. These measures are intended to improve the throughput of the BTK link as part of the Middle Corridor. This point is discussed mainly in sector reporting rather than in one single definitive public project notice, so it is best presented as an expected development rather than a completed decision.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>

3) Financing and railway projects in T\u00fcrkiye<\/strong><\/h5>

The AIIB approved the TCDD Railway Maintenance Modernization Project, which includes procurement of specialized equipment for track, catenary, and seasonal maintenance works, as part of efforts to improve network reliability. Technical updates covering validation rules, code lists, UBL-TR packages, and related invoice standards were announced by the Revenue Administration and were scheduled to take effect on 2 February 2026. For logistics companies and cargo owners, this matters because it speeds up document flows while also increasing the importance of data accuracy.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>

2) e-CMR: movement toward practical pilots in 2026<\/strong><\/h5>

The Eurasian Economic Commission stated that the first test transport operations using international e-CMR consignment notes in the Union will begin in 2026. This is potentially important for cross-border road freight in the region and for future scaling. In parallel, T\u00fcrkiye has also been involved in technical coordination with Azerbaijan on e-CMR pilot implementation.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>

1) Suez routes: partial return, but volatility continues<\/strong><\/h5>

Maersk announced that its MECL service would structurally return to the Trans-Suez route, with the change announced on 15 January 2026. At the same time, CMA CGM stated in separate advisories that some services would continue to be diverted away from Suez because of security uncertainty. For the market, the conclusion is straightforward: transit time and cost planning remain scenario-based, with Suez and Cape of Good Hope routings producing different outcomes for rates, timing, and equipment availability.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>

2) Container rates: noticeable volatility in January 2026<\/strong><\/h5>

Drewry reported that its World Container Index fell 4% to $2,445 per 40-foot container in the week of 15 January 2026. Freightos updates from January 2026 showed Asia-North Europe and Asia-Mediterranean rates fluctuating around roughly $3,000 to $4,800 per FEU depending on the week.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>

3) Additional risk: Black Sea shipping security<\/strong><\/h5>

Regional logistics is also being affected by attacks and incidents involving commercial vessels in or near Turkish Black Sea waters. Reuters reported several such cases in late 2025 and early 2026, including drone attacks on tankers near the Turkish coast, which raised navigation, insurance, and operational risk concerns.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>
